Use your knowledge and experience of the sport to pick the best players available, and then utilise your management skills to turn them into a winning team. GAMEPLAY World Rugby has you managing a top class side through both League and Cup Games. Your goal is to achieve the double - Win the Cup and end the season at the top of the League! All of the action is controlled via KEYBOARD, SINCLAIR or CURSOR JOYSTICK connected to the relevant port on the Spectrum. The current cursor position is indicated by a rugby ball shaped arrow on the screen. Pressing FIRE selects the required option. Where Up and Down Arrows appear on a screen, this indicates that the information can be scrolled in the direction shown by clicking on the arrow. On loading, teams available to manage are chosen by firing on the arrows to scroll through the possible teams. MANAGEMENT SCREEN All of the management decisions involved in World Rugby are controlled by the Management Filofax. Careful study of all of the options available is vital at every stage in the game in order that you can make the best possible use of your team resources. An option is selected by Firing on the item on the Contents page of the Filofax. TEAM SELECTION The full squad of over fifty players is given for selection in the various team positions. The first 15 players and two substitutes can be selected by firstly clicking on POS to indicate in what position you wish that individual to play, and then matching this position to a squad member by highlighting the player's name and clicking. It is essential that the following personal information given as pie charts on each player are utilised to select the best position for each individual: SKILL SPEED KICKING ABILITY TACKLING ABILITY STAMINA HEIGHT WEIGHT The positions available are: FRONT ROW 1. Full Back FB Two Substitutes SUB Skilful matching of a player's ability to position is the essential role of a top class rugby manager. MEDICAL REPORTS The TRAINER reports the name of the player, injury sustained and estimate of time out of action for each off form team member. TRAINING The skill and fitness of players can be boosted by identifying weaknesses and training the player up to full capability. Ten Training sessions are available between each match, which can be allocated to players by clicking on their name. FIXTURES Thirty League Match fixtures are displayed in blocks of fifteen. Clicking on EXIT allows the manager to look at both sets of fixtures and then return to the main Management Screen. PLAY MATCH Firstly, the Scout gives details of the next League or Cup fixture, as well as his assessment of the opponents Forwards, Backs and Current Win Rate. The match can be played with an unchanged team, or you can return to the Management Screen to make any amendments to your squad. Pitch conditions are shown to estimate possible injury and tiredness factors, and the Match Highlights facility for the game can also be switched on or off. At HALF TIME the match score will be available along with details of any injuries that may have occurred to your team. Up to two substitutes can then be selected to play in the second half. The game will then proceed to the final score. A round up of all other match results in your League is also given for comparisons of performance. TAPE LOAD AND SAVE After progressing to a certain point in the league, the game can then be saved for future use. To SAVE - insert a blank tape into the Spectrum cassette player, press play and record and fire on this option. To LOAD - insert the data tape containing the necessary information into the cassette player, press play and fire on this option. LEAGUE TABLE The League around which World Rugby is based consists of three divisions. The division in which you are currently competing is shown to monitor your progress. THE CHAIRMAN The Chairman is responsible for the total well-being of the club, and will provide you with a written warning if your performance is in any way unsatisfactory. Disciplinary offenses include continuous match losses, ana poor team utilisation. Continuously poor performances will result in a sacking.
