T R A C E I T ! An action game for the 16K Spectrum by PROSM Software, featuring colour graphics and challenging gameplay spread over fifteen unique screens. INSTRUCTIONS Rewind the tape if necessary, and then connect your tape recorder to the computer as described in the Spectrum manual. Turn the computer on and type LOAD"" (using J, and then symbol shift together with P twice). Press ENTER and then start the tape recorder. The program takes around two minutes to load fully. Once the program has finished loading, you will be presented with a menu screen, allowing you to select your preferred control scheme (keyboard, Interface II or Kempston). If you are playing with the keyboard, the keys are as follows: Q - Up A - Down O - Left P - Right You can also select whether to play the main game or to play in free-draw mode. THE GAME You control the tracer, who must trace from the left hand side of the screen to the right, without deviating from the coloured path or hitting any baddies along the way. The tracer has momentum, so when you press a directional key (or move your joystick), the tracer will pick up speed in that direction. To slow down again, you must use the controls to accelerate in the opposite direction. A point is scored for each grid square you cover (apart from the starting square). The obstacles you will meet along the way include: ICE - You lose control over the tracer when on the ice, so you must line yourself up correctly first! PACER - Walks from side to side at a constant speed. One touch will kill your tracer instantly. CRAWLER - Crawls up and down the screen, except when you're in their line of vision, in which case they go absolutely nuts! FLOATER - Arguably the most dangerous. Floats around the screen, bouncing off of the edges. If you manage to complete a screen, you will be awarded bonus points for how much time is remaining at the end. FREE DRAW Free-draw is a mode separate from the main game, and is meant as a relaxing diversion. You can draw on the screen using the same controls as in the main game, and you can return at any time to the options menu. For new players, it may also be helpful for getting used to the controls.
