------------------ BlindSweeperDeluxe ------------------ CSSCGC2020 by Andy 'Uglifruit' Jenkinson Features: HI-RES GRAPHICS! SOME (2) UDGS! COLOUR! ONE EXCITING LEVEL! HI(LOW) SCORE! BEEPS! SPEECH! (Requires Currah MicroSpeech) LOTS AND LOTS OF SPEECH! (Requires Currah MicroSpeech) REALLY, FAR TOO MUCH SPEECH! (Requires Currah MicroSpeech) You have been tasked with picking up a case, that contains something important, which is hidden within a minefield. A radio operative can tell you how many spaces in any of your surrounding spaces contain a landmine - and also if you are getting warmer (closer) or cooler (further away) from the case you need to pick up. Enjoy the result. KEYS: Q,A,O,P - move Up, Down, Left and Right SPACE/M: Turn the radio on/off The radio speaks to you (using the Currah MicroSpeech peripheral - available separately). This info is also displayed visually in the display panel for those who are hard of hearing, or that do not own a Currah MicroSpeech peripheral (available separately). The number shows the number of landmines you could step on, and the colour (Red/Green) indicates if your last move was towards or away from the hidden case you must pick up. Once you have picked up the case, you must make for the exit (at the top of the screen). If you complete your task you will be assessed on how much radio intel you have used. The less you have used the better (as the Radio Operative is on a 'per word' salary, and the people in charge are trying to minimise costs). Once you have completed the game, you can try again in order to beat you Hi (Low) Score! --------------------- DELUXE Mode In 'deluxe' mode (press D on the menu) the radio operative gives you the total number of landmines surrounding you (from 0-7) INCLUDING the diagonals, rather than just the adjacent mines you could potentially step on (from 0-3 in Normal mode). --------------------- Author's note: This game, written in BASIC, owes a debt of gratitude to 'Mined Out' (by Ian Andrew, 1983, Quicksilver) & the 'Red/Green' hotter/colder thing tips its hat to 'Ant Attack' (Sandy White 1983, Quicksilver) as does the Medal when you complete the game. Minesweeper is clearly owed too. I wrote this just to practice using the different allophones of the Currah Microspeech. As I played with it more and more I actually started polishing it, and (genuinely) enjoyed playing it (albeit without the very very very annoying speech). I know that somewhat goes against the ethos of the CSSCGC - but John Connolley (host of the 2020 CSSCGC) - posted about having a hard drive fail that was obviously his priority in sorting out, so I didn't immediately send this entry. I faffed with it - optimised things - tweaked the difficulty - all complete anathema to the Cascade Cassette 50 authors, and not within the competition ethos at all. Apologies for that. Please know that any entertainment had from this game is entirely unintentional! Andy 'Uglifruit' June 12th 2020 ... So, I also quickly added the 'Deluxe' version - which shows the number of landmines surrounding you on all sides - not just the cardinal directions. I think this is harder. It is probably more fun. Ish. But it's a close call. Andy 'Uglifruit' June 12th 2020, 1:30pm
