FEAR HELIX 2: RETRO EFFECT A "demake" of the 2001 PlayStation game Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix for the ZX Spectrum by Payndz, © 2022 Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix © 2001 Eidos Interactive and Kronos Digital Entertainment/© 2022 Square Enix ---------- Part 1 covers Disc 1 of the original game, the Aqueducts. Part 2 will cover Disc 2, the Wing Chune building. ---------- The year is 2050AD. The deadly plague EINDS is ravaging the planet, having killed over 700 million people. Dr Liu, head of the Wing Chung corporation, has discovered the "Fear Helix", a genetic cure for EINDS; however, he tightly controls its sale and usage, the weakened strain of the Fear Helix sold by Wing Chung requiring multiple doses at a total cost of $1 million. Even so, the number of people desperate enough to pay this much has made Liu the richest man in the world. Mercenaries Hana Tsu-Vachel and Rain Qin have been hired via their middleman Jin to steal the pure genetic code of the Fear Helix, for a sum of $25 million. Who wants it, and why? Does their backer want to make the cure available to everyone for free, or carve out a share of Wing Chune's market, or blackmail Dr Liu for its return? Hana and Rain don't know, or care. To them, it's a payday - and a way to buy Hana out of her lifelong contract with the Triads. The genetic code of the Fear Helix is divided for security between several computers on the 86th floor of the Wing Chune headquarters in Hong Kong. To reach it, Hana and Rain will need to override the security systems on the 80th floor. They also need to obtain a DNA sample and fingerprints from Dr Liu himself to create a genetic keycard that will allow them to access the computers. Tonight is the annual Wing Chune Christmas party, a major social event for the rich and powerful, with Liu as host. Security, naturally, is high - so the only way in without being detected is via the underground aqueduct system beneath the twin skyscrapers. Once there, Rain will need to reach the aqueduct's District Maintenance Hub to obtain entry codes for the 80th and 86th floors, then both women can proceed to the party to get Liu's DNA and prints before ascending to their mission objective. Jin has helpfully left "gift packages" in the Wing Chune garden and elevator shaft. It's a tough job, but Hana and Rain are sure they can do it. They use a small stealth submersible to reach an ingress point to the aqueducts on an isolated rocky shore. Rain blasts open the door lock with an explosive charge, then they enter. . . ---------- COMMANDS Directions: N S E W U D NW SW NE SE DESCRIBE/R: redescribes the current location INVENTORY/I: shows what Hana or Rain are carrying GET: picks up items (if they can be collected) USE: this is the heavy lifter of the game's commands, used for any interactions with objects.
