Reviews for Space Raiders (#4678)

This was Sinclair's own take on Space Invaders. It's a reasonable version, the main problem being that it never gets any harder.

One of the first games to be released for the, then new, ZX Spectrum this was quite possibly the first example of sprite graphics on the machine and a foretaste of things to come.

Otherwise, it's just a fairly simple Space Invaders clone that runs at a slow and steady pace. Anyone with even the most rudimentary twitch gaming skills ought to be able to turn out a rather enormous score with their first few attempts, after which they'd most likely get bored with it.

Still, in an era of ZX81 ports and cobbled together BASIC efforts, it was a clear cut above the competition and marked out Psion as one of the quality brands in the early years of the Spectrum software scene.

One of the better Space Invaders clones for the ZX Spectrum. Plays smooth and looks great but awful sound, lack of variety and the fact that its the same level, with the same colours, with the same difficulty prevents this game from getting a 5. Not as good as Invaders by Artic but it's up there. Worth a look.

1982 Sinclair Research (UK)
by the Psion Software folks

A very good conversion from the all time classic arcade coin-op 'Space Invaders'.
It had everything going for it, simple but efective graphics (for '82 that is), great sound, good movements and played fairly well, but (yes, there is a but, a BIG but!;)) it only had one level, one game speed, and it wasnt that difficult!
So If you are into games for the sheer glory of beating your own score, this is built for you.

In my opinion, this is the best shooter from the early epoch of the Spectrum and, who else could have done it but PSION ??

There is something magical about Psion games and Space Raiders makes no exception.

It is a magical game by a magical software company.

Easily , the best ´raiders´ out there !
