Re: Showcasing my graphics
Thanks a lot! <3 I guess that's an incorrect translation to blame, the original Russian text says "top artists" ;) Although I'm not really sure these numbers actually demonstrate something objectively, they reflect both ratings and amount of uploaded artwork, so you can't say this says I'...

Re: Are the NEXT's graphics 'authentic?'
I was just backing up Timmy's stance a bit while also saying I like mockups and willing to rip them off since I can't draw :) Carry on, your graphics are excellent. I also need game ideas and inspiration otherwise I'm going to paint myself into a corner of "ParadigmShifter the puzzle game mist...

Re: Are the NEXT's graphics 'authentic?'
No I'm just saying make it clear it's a mockup otherwise we get into hype and Sinclair User reviews of Nemesis type stuff I think I would always make it clear, or have in the past anyway. I don't know anything about what went on with other games. If it involved people being mislead about a commerci...

Re: Are the NEXT's graphics 'authentic?'
although I do agree with Timmy that they should remain private or have "this is a mockup, does not represent actual game" until you've ran it past a coder to see if it is viable :) No one is paying for a mockup so why do I have to keep it secret or get the agreement of anyone else to shar...

Re: Are the NEXT's graphics 'authentic?'
I don't believe making "possible" screenshots is a good way to generate interest, because many Spectrum users got burned with those. In my experience most people want to see good graphics/animation and interesting gameplay, and it doesn't matter whether it's a mockup, demo, or game in dev...

Re: Are the NEXT's graphics 'authentic?'
Also, PLEASE don't make mockups of games you want to see. Because 1) You'll be disappointed if the final result doesn't look like what you want. And 2) Now you've set up really high expectations that developers have to do. And usually a really nice colourful screenshot looks fine, but usually it ju...

Re: Civilization (in progress)
I'll play whatever Andrew decides to make, but I think it's important to be clear on whether this is a remake of Civ or something else. Including modern leaders that weren't in Civ indicates it's not a remake IMO. Just to be clear I don't care about the political reasoning either way, but I know som...

Re: Civilization (in progress)
Don't think that I have disappeared. :D As promised, I worked in the summer. I made a Civilopedia, History, Luxury, inserted all the unit sprites from Helpcomputer0, and finalized the city. I also had to continue working for ZX Like Pascal to optimize code generation in order to increase free memor...

A mockup for a shoot-em-up I'm calling "Lonestar". I may do a loading screen for it at some point.

Re: Civilization (in progress)
I finished the title screen. You can download the .scr here: https://zxart.ee/eng/authors/h/helpcomp ... ilization/
I copied the DOS boxed version and added a bit of colour to the title and pharaoh.

Re: Civilization (in progress)
Here's the completed bits and an example of the tiles.
There's only a few tiles so far, and I kept the top down view like the original Civilization.
Let me know what else you might need and I'll pause further bits for now.

Re: Civilization (in progress)
I hope this project is still alive!
I made a few more leaderheads and should have all 8 done soon. I made some new terrain tiles too.
Then I can make the loading screen if needed.

Re: The Map Keeper
EDIT: It will reduce the variance though - so I assume that is what you mean. However if this applied to health say, dividing by rolls by 5 is the same as multiplying the initial health by 5. Yes sorry, I meant variance. I haven't ran any tests yet but do intend to. This is more the ideas stage of ...

Re: The Map Keeper
Making good progress on the prototype. Now have the world map, local maps, and dungeons explorable, and NPC's that offer healing. I'm now thinking about the 1v1 combat system, I say "system" but it'll likely be quite simple. Here's some ideas, let me know what you think or if you have othe...

Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff
Surely one of the most (if not the most) beautiful Spectrum images ever made. Not merely technically good, this bears the hallmarks of true artistry: composition, colour, light and shade, meticulous attention to detail. The overall effect is a very immediate and evocative sense of photo realism whi...

Re: The Map Keeper
That's true, but ugBASIC also has one more thing. It manages tilemaps natively . In other words, you can draw a tilemap, like the beautiful ones that we are seeing here, using an handy open source tool like Tiled . Then you can draw (and scroll it) it on ZX Spectrum with just two instructions: map ...

Re: The Map Keeper
Have a look at z88dk then if you know C. https://z88dk.org/site/ which has been used to create a lot of games (Mojon Twins and maybe Alessandro Grusso uses that too?) ... I did want to keep it old fashioned and do it all on a Spectrum (emulator) but it's more punishment than it's worth. Have you tr...

Re: The Map Keeper
... Thanks for the response. This makes me sad, there are a few things I wanted to do on top of what I've already posted but it's not gonna happen in BASIC that's for sure. Not unless I cut a lot of stuff. I do know C, so maybe I can use one of the Z80 cross-compilers or get some poor soul to do th...

Re: The Map Keeper
Mountains should be purple shouldn't they? After all it's in a hymn No sniggering at the back of the assembly Finbar! Maybe do the rivers with cyan ink on blue paper, how does that look? Basic is going to be an issue though but if you have a good idea and need some ASM I might be able to help (once...
