Re: Announcing : Spectrum Computing Game of The Year Awards 2023

Yes. Several of the games in round 1 already are denied on this site, but are available on itch.io etc. Thank you. I was not sure on that point. Also a game that was released in 2022 would be excluded however an updated version of it was released in 2023, I need to think maybe so its sort of new an...

Would 'denied'*** games be included ? Honest question.

Re: Did anyone have the best of both?

Sadly (?) no. Speccy only for me. At least until in about the mid 90's when the plus3 died I ended up with an A500 from the "ad mag" (remember that?) for a few months. I did get a C64 a few years later, well I was given it. I used it for a while with its half dozen or so games, Dynamite Da...

Re: Did your parents ever play on your Speccy?

Grandfather would occasionally type in some listings for me, I recall half of one of the "Rabbit" ones, possible Haunted Belltower. I had to finish it off. He also I can recall had played JSW (when I was out) as he'd kindly left me at Swimming Pool and Battlements to 'explore' further. :) ...

Re: Restoring or renewing TAPs unloadable with Spectaculator 8

The issue is (I first wondered on reading your topic if it was the emulator) the .tap file itself. It fails for me too in Spectaculator and in Fuse and Zero (the latter are probably well out of date on my install) It does load in ZXSpin however. The others complain about insufficient buffer data and...

Re: Devfinitive Edition (Matthew Smith): discussion

I know other people aren't too fussed about the games being a bit slow, but for me personally after many years of playing more fluid games, it has become a pet peeve with many Speccy games. I do play them at a higher than normal speed. As you know a simple change of throwing out LDIR to be replaced...

Re: Devfinitive Edition (Matthew Smith): discussion

JSW2 ... The code is completely different to JSW1 JSW2FF started life on the CPC464 then was ported back to the Spectrum As far as I know (but I have not had the chance to ask him) M.S did not have any direct involvement in the creation/development of JSW2 , I stand to be wrong here which is fine. :...

Re: C30 C60 C90 Go - what topped your local 'piracy charts'?

Extremely rare for me, I borrowed a lot of friends compilations but only having one tape deck (and their compilations would have a poor loading record in general) meant I never really bothered. Sad as it sounds I was more interested in dismantling the loaders to turn them into conventional tapes in ...

Re: Do any joysticks actually need 5V power?

Interesting to know as I'd always -assumed- the autofire function would require a 5v line. :) For my own gaming preferences, typically I'd not need such a feature. I can't recall exactly if the Megadrive pads fully functioned on both Sinclair and Kempston, likely I got annoyed and modified the pad s...

Re: Users Online Count

My own (personal nothing more) is to show the total ideally as here with a split between guest/user. This also allows you to monitor unusual guest spikes before any loading restriction may kick in. Aka if for example usual guest traffic is around 20 to 50 then a spike to 300 is worth looking at if i...

Re: Which year did you get your first Spectrum?

10/10/84 For my first Spectrum, being the rubbery keyed 48K model from the town Co-Op , with the Sinclair 'six pack' included.

Had played on one a few months before at a relatives and they brought it round a few times so I knew it was the machine for me.

Re: Forcing 128 startup in 48 mode

Put your own EPROM in it, so that “48K” BASIC is in control at power up / reset. Or if you are willing to modify the existing pins of the existing ROM, or the board, or can be done without using a different ROM/EPROM. Mark I did wonder at the back of my mind if swapping the _Select lines (not sure ...

Forcing 128 startup in 48 mode

Specifically with the black +2 Is there any (simple?) hardware modification I can do to this to force it to start up in 48K mode but without locking paging or anything else ? As in , the same effect as issuing a USR0 from 128K basic, leaving me the 48K editor but with the bonus of access (via assemb...

Re: How many ZX tapes should a respectable collector own?

Too many variables here as its dependent entirely on the individual. Some may as mentioned prefer quantity only, and be happy with 100's of tapes adorning a few rows of shelving. Others could be happy with a couple of dozen or so well known titles and/or big box versions. :) Then other collectors wi...

I've not read the whole topic, sorry.

In reference only to the topic title...

But yes it can give rise to "highly creative" bursts as well as huge bouts of both intense activity (concentration) and the complete opposite effect too sometimes.

I know ;)

Good find! :) Usual caveats about CRT safety. It might be small but it will still potentially pack a potentially nasty punch (as will capacitors) Regarding input, well I suppose there's the option of using the Spectrums RF out straight in -if- that TV has an external antenna/aerial socket. I suspect...

I've yet to play this myself aside from a cursory glance (with week time available) although @R-Tape are you referring to the 'human' or 'inhuman' version ? I'm taking a wild guess you're starting out with the former, which should be a bit easier. :)

Thank you. That might well of been the (partial) disassembly I saw, or a .txt copy of it.

Does have some merit to do the "whole hog" of it so to speak I think.

Wonder if they both had an Interface 1 the network ability (or the serial) could be used for this. I don't think it would be fast enough but I could be wrong.
