Re: Pride Month is here. Show me LGBTQ+-themed ZX Spectrum games!
Sadly, Danielle Bunten's games never made it to Spectrum. I always wondered if the ZX could handle M.U.L.E? Seven Cities Of Gold would be too much, I suppose. While the times were certainly not receptive for an all-out LGBT game it's interesting to think whether there were some with hint-hint nudge-...

Re: Games of note
Nonterraqueous / Mastertronic Deserves a mention for the cool title alone, but overall is not too shabby on all the other important counts too (plus it was a budget game). I particularly like the satisfying, Defender-like shooting, and the fact the baddies do not respawn (yay!). The real downer are...

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have many Roguelikes?
Many years ago I bought Advanced D&D collection. It had 9 ad&D rpg games like pool of radiance (I consider these type of game rogue-like or its evolution with similar mechanics). SSI's Goldbox games are my favourite CRPG series of all time. And that's the point, they really are standard tur...

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have many Roguelikes?
Google Books Ngram Viewer shows that the term "roguelike" was almost unheard of before 1989 and its usage only really accelerated from 2009, following the introduction of the Berlin Interpretation the year before. (There is a spike in frequency in the early 20th century, presumably in a s...

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have many Roguelikes?
Rogue which was released on the Spectrum in 1988(!), is just another dungeon crawler, or adventures that we already have since 1983. Secondly, it's also not even good -- see Crash review -- and I agree with that review, because I've played it a while, and yes, every single run it ends with bad dung...

Re: New Game - Lambs To The Slaughter
Maybe so, but I think @R-Tape's message is about trying not to talk about this stuff here because most (?) of us treat these forums as a form of getaway from such topics.

Games of note
For some years now I've been toiling away on my quest of playing every single ZX Spectrum game (chronologically). I'm now on letter N of year 1985, which isn't really far, but it'd probably be faster if I also didn't take detours doing the same with other 8-bit micros 8-) Anyway, as you might imagin...

Re: Is there a site that announces new games?
Anyone who cares about privacy should not touch Windows 10. It doesn't just have a few backdoors like Win7, it is fundamentally designed to spy on users. Then again, I've come to learn that there is no such thing as privacy in the modern world. You are always being watched. https://github.com/henry...

Good shout, I forgot about this option. Yes, it's all local apparently: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/f ... translate/flatduckrecords wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 7:38 am If Firefox is an option for you, I’ve found its built-in translator has improved recently and does a good job with Planeta Sinclair.

I'm pretty sure IF takes S so that's something to consider too, though right now it's all low scoring. One more vowel and you probably could make it on the triple word there...

Re: Let's see if I can beat Scrabble Deluxe on highest level then
Ibn means something in Arabic and is found in names eg Mohammad ibn Musa... It's one of these words which can drive you mad, because it's probably NOT allowed, but it actually means something and when you remember the explanations for many crazy words which are allowed, you start thinking "hmmm...

Re: Let's see if I can beat Scrabble Deluxe on highest level then
I don't think there is a 7 or 8 letter word available with only one E, would have to be through that I. Will think more later. Pretty sure you're right, but the feeling is there (even though I know it's wrong). I like it about Scrabble, racks like these can make me stare at the board for a very lon...

Re: Let's see if I can beat Scrabble Deluxe on highest level then
As an aside, do you guys play Scrabble irl against other people? In the early Noughties I worked in a small pub where board games were a big thing, especially Scrabble. After watching the regulars duke it out for some time I started to ask to play myself. At first they were laughing, with "Wha...

Re: Be careful - image flipping won'r protect you!
It's a funny thing with screenshots and in-game video footage. The former has been seen in magazines since the stone age and the latter is all over YouTube. These are in context of 'review' - fair use. If you're selling a commercial product with this art in it and there's no context of review, well...

SAX is another option, for 33, but yeah, kills two of the power letters, so I guess FAULT is strategically better.

Re: Be careful - image flipping won'r protect you!
There are legal fair-use exemptions for reviews, and academic journals and the like. Yes, which is why I said the example in the OP seems rather detached from our scene, since it's so blatantly a case of real plagiarism. As in taking somebody's work and pretending its yours. I usppose this kind of ...
