Your Computer's Year's Best - 1986 Awards

The given magazine link - http://www.worldofspectrum.org/showmag. ... 100042.jpg - goes to the wrong website and ends up going to Your Computer Issue 1 instead. It should go to https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/page.ph ... 06&page=42 .

I wonder what would happen if Stephane Crainic ever found his entry for the piece of sonic wizardry linked above.

If you don't know French, that was funny. Apparently. Also, there's near-certainly an accent in Stéphane as well.

Two possible issues:

1. "Rock Star Goes Bizarre" is available for download, but as a Codies title it should probably be denied.
2. There is a "Travel with Trashman" review that contains the word "beeriest" instead of "beerfest". (I haven't checked the original magazine in case of a source typo.) I know that's ZXSR, not ZXDB, but I can see no way to contact the former.

As a promo version, it may not have the same restrictions as the original. But I will take a look.

Could you please report this issue in the ZXSR bugs thread.

Man Hunt
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/2 ... m/Man_Hunt

is from 1983 not 1984, as shown by the linked December 1983 Computer Choice advert on that page...
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/page.ph ... 58&page=10

Note that it is being sold there by HFS Software which appears to have been the company that later morphed into Wordlight Ltd/Omen Software; as it shares their address and game catalogue.

So the initial release should be HFS Software. Given the availability of other HFS/Wordlight/Omen Software (for other platforms) in all three branded packaging, I wouldn't be surprised if the Spectrum version was similarly repackaged three times.

Given one of their games for another platform, Stockade, was programmed by Huw Ford, I'm going to make a guess that the H and F in HFS stood for Hugh Ford.

Tasword Two

is not Sinclair BASIC (it has a small part in BASIC, but is mainly MC), I dont see how to remove this in pavero's form.

C&VG issue 57 (July 1986) included the supplement "IDEAS Central Handbook No. 1":

https://archive.org/details/Computer_an ... 6/mode/2up

This contains the following playing tips:

Zoids: p3
Quazatron: p6
Heavy on the Magick: p10 (plus map on p12)
Super Bowl: p13
Green Beret: p15 (plus map on p16)
Movie: p18 (plus map on p19)
Tau Ceti: p20

It also has a Zoids competition on the back page, p24.

There's already an entry in ZXDB for the second IDEAS Central Handbook:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/issue/7 ... l_Handbook

This should be renamed "IDEAS Central Handbok No. 2" (as listed on p2).

As noted by Garry at CASA...
This was published by Markt & Technik as a BASIC type-in listing for the Spectrum ZX in Happy Computer, issue 14, December 1984, pp. 57–60, 62.

A remark about the title of this game #2942:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/2 ... ectrum/Lsd

This game is entered into the database as "L.S.D." but the real name is "£SD" (look at the loading screen). There is a Remark stating that the pound sign in the title cannot be handled by the database system (is this still true in 2021?), but in any case, there are no dots between the letters, so "LSD" would be more accurate than "L.S.D."

Except that £.s.d. and £.S.D. are the name of the program on the inlays, so it is no more or no less accurate. A database search for both lsd and L.S.D. will bring you to the correct program, anyway, as LSD is already an "also known as" title.

EDOS inlays:

Pool Pool(BlueRibbonSoftware).jpg
Boxing Manager BoxingManager(CultGames)_Front_2.jpg and BoxingManager(CultGames)_Back_2.jpg
Wembley Greyhounds WembleyGreyhounds(CultGames)_Front_2.jpg & WembleyGreyhounds(CultGames)_Back_2.jpg
On The Bench OnTheBench_Front_3.jpg & OnTheBench_Back_3.jpg

These inlays, which are for multiple platforms and have the barcode replaced with an "EE" graphic, are all EDOS versions of the inlays and should have (EDOS) added to their filenames.

Ballbreaker II

The game lists the following roles on the title screen:

Richard Taylor - programming
Jon Law - graphics
Clement Chambers - design
Jay Derrett - sound

Each level credits its designer at the start:

Simon Rockman
Jez San (credited as "Jeremy Sands" in-game, and currently listed as "Jez Sands" in ZXDB)
Ian Andrew (credited as "Ian Andrews" in-game)
Clement Chambers

Probably understandably, the link to the SU review for Crazy Cars ( https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/1 ... Crazy_Cars - a Joust clone, not the driving game) links to the driving game.

Night Gunner currently has this comment:

"A 16k version was announced in Sinclair User #8 (page 17) for £4.95 but it's currently MIA."

I believe it's wrong. The article that's mentioned refers to the ZX81 game Night Gunner that has the same title.

"Street Cred" (based on the recently posted RZX, from RZX Archive) is credited to "Mainstream Software" (what a shockingly bad name). So should that be an entity?

"Turning Moment Caculator" has a misspelled title: the last word should be "Calculator".

Agreed.
The ZX81 magazine entry reads more like a news item than a review.
An actual review can be found in Home Computing Weekly #5 page 28. There are also more references on ZX81 stuff.

Hello, and sorry if this is a wrong place - just registered here to post this:

Wizard's Lair by Yodasoft has a magazine review link to Your Sinclair issue 19. This is incorrect.
Your Sinclair issue 19 page 60 does mention Wizard's Lair, but it's the more common Bubble Bus Wizard's Lair, not the Yodasoft game.
