NEW PRESERVATION TOOLS

Whether it's Mire Mare or a BASIC tape you found in the attic, it needs to be preserved digitally. Post here and experts can help to do so.

Please could I ask for a couple of additions to the form?

Add file type .ROM. I'm trying to add the Interface 2 version of Mag The Magician

@pavero it´s "MCN Software [NL] (Netherlands)" but I can´t find a way to add this. So I removed the files I´ve already uploaded and submitted them newly.

@pavero,

I can't see an option to change the original publisher for this game:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=14505

It was actually a type-in from Popular Computing Weekly.

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/page.ph ... 69&page=10

I have added the magazine references under #002492.

Thanks

Hi Peter,

yes, you can use the online form for adding a new publishers/authors only.

So in these cases please use Little Bugs thread.

Can I ask some questions about the preservation of games that are not yet preserved or even known on this site (or everywhere):

1) I just have to put the name of the game in ZXDB new (MIA) title/entry (fulltext): right?

2 Do I also need to put in an ID, yet? I have no idea which ID I have use.

2) The game is still MIA until I have created .TZX (or a .TAP) and put on this site, right? Can it be changed from MIA to Available later on? And how?

3) About the covers/inlays/tape, etc. Do you now create the new (MIA) title/entry, then wait until it is submitted on the site, and THEN you can add the new files? Or is it possible to do it at the same time by going to add the new file and then use the name of the game that you have just submitted and all? (will scan them later)

4) Is it possible to put a FINISHED (and making say "Thank you for contributing" or something) button at the bottom of PRESERVATION TOOLS like Add a new (MIA) title/entry and the others? It makes more easy to know if you have actually submitted it to this site. Or is it finished when you press "Back to the main menu? If you know what I mean.

5) If it is latter known that the wrong publisher of a game has been put there, can it be changed later on? Example: I am not that sure if Primosoft is a publisher, (it could be NIB OR BV Uitgeverij NIB, Zeist OR Uitgeverij NIB) but I will put it there until we know the right answer.

PS: Sorry, if I am not that clear. I was not sure how to ask these questions.

Edit: Is this the right thread to ask this and can someone see both of the new games that I just submitted? If not...I will try again. (Or should I really have created an ID or something? But which IDs should I use then?)

Yes, if you want to add a new/missing title, you can use this form. You put the name of the game only, without ID.

No, a new ID is generated automatically on the background.

If you already have TAP/TZX files, you can select Availability:Available directly. But later you can change this information via this form:
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/zxdb/ad ... hanges.php

Yes, it is possible to do it at the same time. You can use this form and select your earlier added title via fulltext.

The most forms have two buttons. The first button - Generate SQL, The second button - Publish SQL (this is your FINISHED button in terminology which you have used).
Here you can always check your result.

In this case it is better to let the publisher field empty. You can add the information later with using this form.

@pavero,

I'm recording quite a few 'type-ins' at the moment, and was wonder if it would be possible to enter the URL of the magazine page, rather than having to enter all the individual magazine, issue and page details. For example.

I appreciate that this would not work for magazines not yet referenced in ZXDB.

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/page.ph ... 89&page=20

It's probably not possible, but just thought I would mention it just in case. Thanks

@Einar Saukas what is the best way for you? I know you process this information 'somehow' if you add new 'type-ins' in ZXDB?

This is a good idea.

The online form for magazine references could have a field for "Spectrum Computing URL". So if someone provides a link like this:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/page.ph ... 89&page=20

Then it will automatically fill the fields for magazine, issue and page number.

Or if someone provides a link like this:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/issue/2 ... Weekly/123

Then it will automatically fill the fields for magazine and issue, but the user still needed to fill the page number.

Another possible improvement in this online form is a flag for "original type-in". The user should click on it when a certain program was originally published as type-in, and this is the first time this program was published. For instance:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/1 ... akes_Seven

Take a look at section "magazine references" in this page above. This program was originally published as type-in by Sinclair User, then later re-published as type-in by MicroHobby. The Sinclair User magazine reference was flagged as "original type-in". Because of this, at the top of this page it automatically says "Original Publisher: Sinclair User - type-in from magazine issue #30 - 1984/Sep".

Re: NEW PRESERVATION TOOLS

I am not sure if this is the right spot to ask this, but I want to know some things before I can submit another one. (if wrong place, then my apologies and you can move it to the right place)

I want to submit this game called The Exodus, but I am not sure about

2) which publisher's type I should use. Company?

3) Not sure which genre I should use; This is a two part graphical text adventure based on the Holy Scriptures where you play the role of Moses. The first part starts at the moment that Moses has completed his education at the Palace. Bored with all things he wants to see how the Hebrew slaves are doing. In the second part, Moses has to bring the people to Sinai and then to the Promised Lands.

a) It has simple black & white line graphics. Thus graphical or still a text adventure?

4) The publisher is Esda Software or ESDA Software? What would you reckon?

The proof;

What to do?

PS: For some reason the game goes straight to the Second part and to my horror I do not know the code word anymore. Sorry. (will check this out later again) I also will scan the instructions and cover. Hopefully, I can also make a .TZX or .TAP.

Thank you both for answering my questions. It seems that I already submitted that game and used Company instead of Publisher/Manager, because I was not entirely sure if it is an actual publisher or an one person thing. If you know what I mean. But now I wonder.

I also already went with PeterJ's answer and used Graphical adventure game. Text/illustrated makes sense. (If only I get the Part One to work or knew the code word of Part Two to check out the actually graphics/text and all)

IS it still possible to change?

Sorry @Arcachnar,

I was wrong about suggesting Graphical adventure game. As @pavero says Text/illustrated makes better sense.

@pavero gave me a great tip.

Go to: Add a new (MIA) title/entry

Enter in Exodus, and you will find it at the bottom of the list.

Click the EDIT button:

Image

Make the change, generate code and publish code again.

Obviously you can only do this on entries which have not yet been processed.

EDIT - Sorry, just seen @pavero replied too.

Would it be possible to add rzx recording for a game that doesn't have an entry on SC?

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/zxdb/ad ... ew_rzx.php

I believe it's impossible now.
