Automatic downloads are tricky. Sometimes file links change on each new release (if version number is part of a filename, for instance). Sometimes a new release contains different files. Sometimes it makes sense to store different versions (such as PAW and AGD releases), not just the latest. In case of titles updated constantly, we usually keep a copy of the latest version (or multiple versions when it makes sense), in addition to links to the original URL (home page and perhaps links to specific files if their filenames never change). This way, we get everything preserved in case the original URL disappears (which happens quite often), and users have easy access to the URL so they can check if there's a more recent version available.
Do you have any specific title in mind that's updated frequently? I would like to take a look.
