Reviews for Curro Jimenez (#1188)

Those were the last days of the ZX Spectrum . . . in the year 1989 I was 12 years old and I fancied these games almost too much ! ! ! But the Spectrum splendour was declining . . .

The monochrome graphics are annoying but the game-play is o.k. ! ! !

This is Game Over in a new dress . . . Nice scroll and nice shooting routine ! ! !

This game is highly playable but the monochrome settings are painful to look at ! ! !

Based upon a Spanish TV series . A late example of Spanish software . . .

3 out of 5 .

1989 Zigurat Software/ Arcadia Soft

This is a very worthy horizontal scrolling shoot 'em up based upon el Curro Jimenez, a successful Spanish television drama series.
You start by foot, and progress into your mounted horse. Graphically the game is quite good, with nice animated characters and fairly well done action scenes, although the blocky style may not appeal to everyone.
The color scheme of the game is totally monochromatic, varying the color from level to level. Sound is simple but effective enough.
I enjoyed the game enough to give it a four, although I prefer smoother scrolling shoot 'em ups like the one given to us by Joffa Smith, for instance, but Curro Jimenez is worth a few plays.

It's good but graphics get slightly messy and scroll is not too smooth .
