Reviews for Double Dragon III: The Rosetta Stone (#1463)

One of the more playable versions of the awful Double Dragon III. This game sucks for a number of reasons, one of them being the inclusion of the shop which enables you to insert coins to purchase weapon, power ups and other items. Luckily the spectrum lacked that function and allows you to simply collect the coins for purchasing.

The game doesn't play too badly, though you can beat up the baddies with your hands and feet I would strongly recommend you buy a power up to strengthen your attack so that it knocks them out in far less time. You can also purchase weapons to help you along the way, annoyingly, when I purchased a weapon all I could hit was clear air and my energy quickly vanished and I died as a result.

But overall this is pretty good and a lot than it's dire arcade counterpart and plays way better then the first Double Dragon on the Speccy. Double Dragon enthusiasts proclaim Double Dragon III as the worst of the series, on the ZX Spectrum though it's the best and it's definately worth a look.

Third time lucky for Double Dragon fans. After 2 disappointing games, the Rosetta Stone finally delivers a game worthy of the Double Dragon name.

1991 Alternative Software (UK)

I noticed reviewers are a bit divided about this one, I feel at ease to say that this is not all that bad, an average game, unoriginal, seen dozens of times, but not bad. Comparison with previous versions always arises and the actual games gets to be a little ignored.
There not much to say new about DDIII, maybe the inclusion of the shop, where you can upgrade, some like it some don't, I myself think is unnecessary filler, but doesn't hurt the game. All in all: average.

Have they possibly messed up Double Dragon for a third time? Well the game is slower and the graphics aren't too hot but then they weren't on the arcade version anyway, they are plain white here though. However, the gameplay is a massive improvement. It's much easier to do the moves, they are more effective and it plays a lot better than the previous two games. So at the third time of asking, they finally got Double Dragon right on the Spectrum.
