For some reason I never played this until 2007 on emulation !

I just never liked the screenshot of the guy on the jeep, how wrong i was ! Finally got round to playing this and I loved it, the levels are superbly designed, theres a great host of weapons to get, tons of baddies and end of level bosses.

Just a superb game, one of the best

Midnight Resistance is sheer brilliance.
What an impressive game design.
And it is very fair, indeed.
If you select the right weapons at the end of each level, of course.

But why the heck do I only grace this little gem with a rating of 4?
It's because of the pot luck weapons you receive right before the final level.
You've got the choice:
Either you save all your relatives and accept that you might end up with weapons that are absolutely abysmal for the purpose ahead.
OR you test every weapon briefly and stop saving your relatives as soon as you get a decent 3-way gun.
Poor buggers - your relatives.
Maybe you can argue that you come back after finishing off the big end-of-game baddie.
Or you save a snapshot of the game right before the relatives are being saved or alternatively afterwards when you find a decent weapon in your hands to continue.

Brilliant game - shame about the pot luck at the end...

UPDATE: Even in Tipshop you only find information about pot luck weapons right before the final level.
This is WRONG!
By watching a youtube video of Midnight Resistance I found out that you can walk and jump at your relatives. When they come down you then stand to the right (usually) so when they touch the ground they leave a weapon or add-on behind.
Now you can choose your equipment for the final battle properly.
And I have to amend my vote from 4 (Good) to 5 (Excellent).

HAVE FUN!

Midnight Resistance is game I never tire of playing. It could be because of the hugely satisfying over the top explosions. Or maybe it's the control system which makes firing in 8 directions a breeze. Perhaps it's the bold colourful graphics or the fantastic 128k soundtrack. Or maybe just the fact that it's one of the best arcade conversations ever to grace the spectrum. Either way, Midnight Resistance is one of spectrum's very finest games and arriving late on in the speccy's life, one that many people may have missed.

Very well programmed game that deserves to be listed as one of the best arcade conversions on the Spectrum.

This is more like it. A great conversion from an arcade coin-op. If you love shoot 'em ups, this is certainly for you, just the way the shooting occurs makes you wanna play the game, shooting 8 directional bullets (balls) is has easy as walking in the park and the explosions fxs are really cool. Every level as different weapons to choose from, but that depends on the keys you collect and the budget you have. This may be particularly important in order to move forward, some weapons help resolve easily some levels, and others are not so efficient. This game is awesome in so many ways, I just don't like the bulky graphics and the way the less fluid movement I'm used to in games for instance by Jonathan Smith, still that does not deter the game in any way, and it's a fantastic addictive game.
