Prohibition was one of those titles that marked the decline of the Spectrum reign or, at least, the beginning of the end.
It isn´t a bad game but my memories about this title are bitter-sweet.
In the year of its release I was about 10 years old and it appears that some of the charm and the innocence of those early Spectrum video-games was starting to fade as I stepped into adolescence.
I´m surprised no other users have reviewed this game yet since it used to be quite popular back in the day ...
I guess Al Capone would enjoy playing Prohibition ... but me ??? only at times . :(
3,5 out of 5 .
This Infogrames title takes a lot of inspiration from the Seibu Kaihatsu Street Fight coin-op, also known as 1931 Empire City, although not to the extent of being an unofficial conversion of it.
I quite liked the coin-op back in the day, and the game mantains much of the feel of it. As a police agent in some American city of the '30s you are being chased by gangsters. Basically, you must shoot them before they shoot you. The action is viewed in first person, and you must move your sight to reveal the scene and find the baddies. Arrows and a counter will help you understand where your foes are and how soon will they shoot you. You can also hide by keeping ENTER pressed - but that will use up your bullets.
The game's strongest point are undoubtedly the detailed and atmospheric black-and-white graphics, combined with the constant pressure exerted by the foes. Sound is however almost non-existent.

It's got the fundamentals to be a great game but it doesn't quite make it, it tires rather quickly and it all becomes rather redundant. Also could never work how music is downloadable on World of Spectrum but the game doesn't appear to have any.
French software! It's a subjective shoot'em up, you move a crosshair across a multi-screen area, following some usual arrows, trying to locate the gangster peeping from a window of the building, or from the roof, or ducked on the pavement outside, or climbing the external stairs, you have about 4 seconds to find him, before he shoots you. More realistically than in the other games of this sub-genre, your aim is not completely steady after shooting, your slightly shake and you have to readjust slightly. It's ok, I guess and it doesn't even look bad [too much white space, though].
3/5
Any game that is based around a time alchohol was illegal gets a 0 from me, absolute sacrelidge!
No actually in all seriousness it's a shit game. Move a crosshair around, and get fired at before you can find the hostile that's aiming at you, maybe you can shoot one of two of them, or maybe you'll die in 30 seconds.
Glad I got this game as part of a compilation that had much better games on it.
