Reviews for Punchy (#3939)

THE very first Speccy game I ever played!! This and five others came with my Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128K +2A in Christmas 1989 (see the Soft 888 compilation on WoS) and I put this on my Spectrum first.

I will always keep Punchy close to my heart for the nostalgia it brings to me, its a Hunchback clone and it looks and plays a lot better than the Ocean conversion of the arcade game but in fairness the game probably hasn't aged well but its still a fun game to play.....well at least to me it is anyway =)

1983 Mr. Micro Ltd (UK)

A cute Hunchback clone from 83, initially called Hunchy, before the name got swapped from legal reasons.
It shows its age quite a lot, The jumping routine is badly written and the graphics look like small blobs on the screen (even with glasses on). The computerized voices are a nice add but I cant figure out what he is saying! Not particurily mesmerizing but yet a funny colourful game from the early days.

Hey ! This is a cute-vintage game from as early as 1983 and a sort of Quasimodo variation .

In this case you are a tiny mouse instead of a hunchback cripple . you must jump from caravan to caravan into the next level . exciting ... isn´t it ??

The movements aren´t exactly silky smooth , alas , we are talking about a 1983´s routine . the graphics demand more from your imagination than what they show for themselves and the sound fx will test your listening skills to the full but , all in all , Punchy is worth a try and , certainly , a rewarding and entertaining experience.

Shite game even at the time of release, although to be fair I found it a little more playable than the official Hunchback release.

…..But after all these years I'm still wondering what that digitized speech is telling you to do to the baby.....

It sounds more like.....Well let's just say it doesn't sound like "rock" to me.

Sinister indeed!

Have to be honest, I quite like this one. It's a much better Hunchback game than the officially licensed game. The speech however is hilariously bad. What on earth is he trying to say? Also what is with the text in the high score screen with the T looking like a J? Sirrah has ajjained one of jhe jop eighj scores of jhis fine day. I thought Crazy Cars' A looking like an O was bad but this is something else! But aside from that it's the gameplay that scores points for me and this wasn't bad at all.
