Reviews for Sly Spy: Secret Agent (#4574)

Review by WhenIWasCruel on 22 Aug 2009 (Rating: 3)

late multilevel shoot'em up, in which you are a secret agent in various dangerous situations. the levels are playable and strangely short, especially compared to other multilevel games like batman - the movie, and there's not much to it.
anyway, always staying inside the limits of shoot'em up gameplay, there's a bit of variety: kill parachuting, kill riding a motorbike, kill underwater, kill walking somewhere, kill the big baddie at the end of the level.

kill kill kill.

One of the finest coin-op conversions for the Spectrum. Good graphics and sound are coupled to a run-jump-swim-and-shoot action which holds enough variety to avoid becoming repetitive.

I never really played this in the arcades to be honest so I was a bit skeptical playing this one not knowing what to expect, but it's really good, very nice graphics and great music from Geoff Follin (yes that’ll be Tim’s brother). I liked this one very much.

Superb spy game with incredible music and many exciting features & good things to offer ... resembling somehow the classic Green Beret .

I cannot critizise this one !!

1990 Ocean Software (UK)
by Dean Belfield, John Tatlock, Simon Justin Street and Geoff Follin

A very good conversion from the arcade original. All is here, the fast paced action, the cool looking graphics and scenery, sound and the addictive factor all well rendered. Obviously this isn't entirely faithful to the arcade version, if so you wouldn't have an almost monochromatic scheme , but that's the way the Spectrum was built, color is not it's strength.

For me, this ranks among the best arcade conversations on the Speccy. Graphics and gameplay are top notch and it plays so much better than the original. If you were going to do an arcade conversation, this was how to do it.
