Reviews for Blob the Cop (#572)

This was a free game I had from a Sinclair User cover tape in '89. It is a sideways scroller, with a nod to the Robocop game - which was the big game at the time.
Unfortunately, this is no where near as good as Robocop. Its ok/good for a free game, the cartoon style graphics are very nice and clear. However, the game play is very monotonous, despite being broken up by a rather baffling and frustrating sub game between each scrolling level. There are platforms / steps to distinguish between levels, but as your character is sporting a helicopter backpack, they are of little consequence. It has all the structure and polish of a great game, it just appears no one bothered to give it any engaging game play.

This is pretty good but it gets far too repetitive too quickly. It's a game you can play and get into almost instantly but it's far too much of the same to take seriously.

Before Mr. Blobby terrorized our television screens there was Blob the Cop, or Blobocop if you prefer to call him. This came out on Issue 83 of Sinclair User in February 1989 and was written by our old friends at Players Software. It involves you controlling a blob to various areas in “ye olde map of dork” shooting baddies and collecting items by solving the puzzle at the end of each area. It’s not a bad game overall but an awful lot of repetition comes into play very quickly and it become a boring chore. Still not bad for nought I suppose.
