Reviews for Zoot (#5873)

If you like weird games this is for you ...

It reminds me in a strange way to Molar Maul , if only because you must squash and tear down to pieces as many teeth as you can .

Zoot is a strange mixture between Mario Bross and Molar Maul -there is a cartoonish side to it- ... I just don´t know how to take it , it puzzles me , it leaves me perplexed .

This platformer is so weird that I don´t know how to describe it , just try it and find it for yourself .

ps - too weird to even be qualified .

Zoot is a different type of platform game, and what distinguishes it from the bunch is also what makes it annoying or frustrating. If you've played the game you know there are several different screens each with a purpose of its own. Later in higher levels you need to perform combinations found in the previous "primary" levels. Well this seems more complicated than it actually is, but it's still a pain in the back bottom(!).
You need to study the instructions before playing, otherwise you will reach for the reset button veeery quickly.
Once you've done that you discover in Zoot a very nice platform game. One of it's faults is the size of the graphics which are too big slowing down the game a lot. Overall with a different approach to the plot and simpler graphics I think Zoot could have been high above average.

Strange little platformer in which you have to interact with strange creatures, each one with their own name and features, to go on to the next level.
The interaction in the first level is just punching. On the second level, I already don't know.
Sprites are big and colorful, in a slightly clashy way, and the animation is a bit flickery.
Gameplay is relatively slow and not terribly engaging. It's nonetheless playable.

Curious slow and steady puzzle platformer which certainly requires the player knowing a few basics from the instructions as every level has a different solution.
The nice cartoony graphics cause slow down problems.
I had this as an original back in '85 and spent some time on it. Score well for originality and the shouty greeting
"Hey hey heh heh he hey Zoooot!"

Too complex for my liking. The first screen was fine, punch all the enemies and move down when all are eliminated, okay good so far. Then after doing the same to the Bodkins in level 2 I was told to try again. I learned after that you have to trap them all instead, and I can't work it out, and so this is no longer fun. It looked promising but ultimately falls flat.
