Re: How to detect MCoder II games?

Can we also add a group/tag for games that probably or surely used compilation from some high level programming language (BASIC etc.) ? This group/tag would be redundant since we already have more specific information in the archive (i.e the exact compiler used by each program). As a general rule, ...

Re: A can of worms with multiple genres

I understood something different. This tag needs a proper description to make it clear what it means! What about this? Any game featuring a different gameplay genre in each level. Also could you please check this list, to see if it doesn't have any games classified incorrectly? https://spectrumcompu...

Re: Does anyone know anything about DDT, the Italian Pssst?

Yes, that one. I didn't know it was filed individually too. From the link you provided yourself: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/23812/ZX-Spectrum/Software_Magazine_Serie_Oro_No_1 This link shows a Box Set. The individual tapes (that came in this box) are listed in section CONTENTS. If you cl...

berarma wrote: Wed May 29, 2024 3:43 pm I had this game. It came in the pack Software Magazine Serie Oro No 1. The tape cover was very simple, a solid colour background with the title. You can find photos in the internet.

Did you try searching for "Fumigator" or "DDT"? In both cases you will arrive to this page:

Re: Tr-Dos disk problem

@Einar Saukas One more question, what is the current standard for the titles of Russian programs? Translation to English? Transliteration? Original title in Russian alphabet? The foreign titles in non-Latin alphabets (mostly inherited from Martijn's old WoS) usually use transliteration in the archi...

Re: Tr-Dos disk problem

If they are together on the disk because it's a compilation: Make an ID for the compilation, and separate IDs for each individual program (they get linked to the compilation later). If they are not a compilation (e.g. you or someone just happened to save them together like that): make separate IDs f...

OK, random search is now fixed!

From the homepage, select "Search type: Random Search", also select "Genre: All Games" (or whatever genre you want), choose any other filter options (or don't), then click "Search ZXDB".

Re: Games that impacted on you visually

Before 1986, there was a few games with great graphics (Saboteur, Lords of Midnight, TLL, etc) but I think only Knight Lore can be considered "visual impact".

I suggest we create a new entry for Trevor Toms BASIC Compiler, marked as "never released", with a magazine reference to the Classic Adventurer article.

Re: Suggestion: Add PZX files to the database

PZX files are a simpler format and easier to implement in emulators and tools. There is no real advantage over TZX in terms of preservation TBH because both do the job. But having PZX files actually available in the real world will help popularize the format. It's kind of chicken and egg right now,...

Re: Hidden code in Brainstorm game

For example, Tycoon contains an unreleased MCODER compiler in it. ZXDB describes it as compiled with ERE's MCoder III, but it's actually Threlfall/Hodgson's unreleased MCODER 3 . This later evolved into HiSoft's COLT. There's now a separate entry for MCODER 3: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/...

What's the advantage in doing so?

If PZX files are just auto converted from TZX, then just storing TZX would be enough.

Then go for it.

Don't overcomplicate this. Aiming too high for your first game is an effective way to ensure you will never release anything.
