Reviews for Devil Diver (#1379)

Not a bad game but the movements are too clumsy and retarded and the inertia effect is very hard to control .

The graphics are too big , the fishes and the diver are very big and I hate games in which your character is so big it becomes an easy target ! This feature is fastidious and spoils some of the fun .

The tune is charming though , it reminds me of Popeye the Sailor .

Where are the spinachs ? ?

Cute subaquatic one-screen game between Jet Pac and Fantastic Voyage. Of the latter it has the same sprite, the same way of carrying objects, and the same kind of swimming inertial movements - and for a reason, the author is the same [his only two games], of the first it retains the classic one screen arcade feel and setting, and the need to complete a task carrying and dropping objects: in Jet Pac it was pieces of shuttle and fuel tanks, in Devil Diver you must complete a submarine pipeline, so you dive from a boat with a piece of it at the time, drop it on the bottom where a piece is still missing, take the treasure that as a prize appears, and bring it to the boat, where your limited air supply is restored. Not so easy as described until now, of course, the other Jet Pac feature is the shoot'em up part: the sea [or ocean] flora is varied and lethal, but luckily you have your weapon. Once you complete a section, you're onto the next, where the marine animals, each with its own movement pattern and behaviour, and the difficulty augment. Playable, cute and nicely done.

This very much reminded me of Glug Glug and it plays very nice. In fact I think I might prefer this game as it doesn't have the same slow issues Glug Glug had plus there is more gameplay in this one. This was really good fun and it can be addictive too.

Nice movement and action in this Jetpac and Scuba Dive hybrid single screen harpoon-em-up
Not quite as good or finessed as Jetpac, nor as evocative of the submarinal world as Scuba Dive, but certainly recommendable to anyone who loves Jetpac an wants to try a test similar skills and reactions.

I struggled with this at first but then once I realised what needed to be done I slowly got into it. It's not bad, it's colourful and quite cheerful.

This is one of the best games I've played since I started using emulators.
I wished I had it as a boy. It's really great. It's very similar to Glug Glug (both games were release in the same year) and I bet it would have become a lot more popular if only it had a bit more marketing supporting it.
The game was written by the author of 'Fantastic Voyage', as it's pretty clear by the divers look, diving routine or even the start up menu.
Each level as it's own sea life, raging from simple fish, to sharks and octopuses, all beautifully designed in large sprites.
All in all, I find this an incredible addictive game.
