Reviews for Android One (#190)

This is one of the early games from Costa Panayi who would later go on to write such seminal hits as TLL, Cyclone, Highway Encounter and Deflektor.

It's a relatively simple affair where everything moves in exact character squares, complicated by a rotate and move control system. You've got to blast your way through a number of walls, avoiding assorted robots on the way to destroy a reactor before it, rather more catastrophically, blows up the world.

Whilst not a terrible game by 1983 standards, this hasn't dated very well and is pretty much just a historical curiosity now.

1983 Vortex Software (UK)
by Costa Panayi

Costa Panayi showed his potential with Android One, a Berserk clone.
It's not a brilliant game but plays better than some versions available, even later ones.
It has a stronger story line when compared to Frenzy, for instance.
The game is very hard, I never got far in it, mostly because of the weird set of keys, and the unnecessary rotating feature.
Story wise the mutants to be destroyed seem inspired from the 2000 AD comics, they are distributed in classes. You have the Groupies (gathering in groups), the Skaters (slick and hard to hit), the Wanderers (random moves) or the Bouncers (who will jump on you).
The main purpose of the game is the reactor at the end of the array of walls that you will face, it has to be destroyed, then you will have to make your way back again to the start, always fighting your way thru the mutants.

The sequel, released that some year is a better game, much improved, with a 3D maze and by that time glimpses of future offers from Panayi were already visible in this first games.
If you are comfortable with the controls, this can be a fun game to enjoy.

Interesting premise . . . but to control the android is quite a task ! !

Nothing out of the ordinary but decent and playful . . .

3 out of 5 .

Game inspired by the classic arcade Berzerk. The result is an enjoyable work by Costa Panayi.

Infiltrate your android into a complex, destroy the reactor and go back to the starting point facing many aliens.

UDG graphics, a low level of difficulty and a short map don't stop being an interesting game.

another great programmer, Costa Panayi, started to train his skills as programmer.
It already began to glimpse something of what was to come.

the game itself?? a normal game, that was not bad for its time.

Indeed, this is an entertaining game that is not wonderful (almost the opposite, in fact) but it is the prelude to the best that was to come

This, at least was used to present himself to Costa Panayi
