Reviews for Hobgoblin (#2335)
old review:
a rather poor ghosts'n'goblins clone, with virtually no animation, scarce playability, exceedingly fast movements EXCEPT when you need to jump and dodge: in this case, the response is not immediate, and the jump is low and slow: you'd need a more agile hero to play such a game. the gameplay is all a jump'n'shoot thing, but you almost can't improvise: you absolutely have to memorize the enemies' positions and movements, because they're too fast to be dodged or killed the first time.
stick to the original or some better clone.
new review:
Sort of poor man's Ghosts 'n Goblins. After all it costed only 3.99£. Still, it can become diabolically addictive for half an hour or so.
A Ghosts 'N' Goblins clone that could've been good if the main character was a bit more responsive. You'll find yourself jumping or shooting in plenty of time but the game won't respond quick enough to your input and you'll end up being killed through no fault of your own.

Hobgoblin is a hidden gem !!!
Try it if you like platformers with an arcane & tetric flavour ...
Scarce playability is the big letdown here ,,, but the atmosphere seems supreme and there is some depth into this game , is not as simple as it seems at first sight !!
Hobgoblin is as near to excellence as one can get without finally reaching such status . MY VIEW .

Simple and fun game in the style of Makaimura. As with Makaimura, you don't have any air control, and that sux. Jumping is also slightly unresponsive, so it is hard (if possible at all) to play the game without memorizing. But at least there are no random enemies, so you can learn your way.
It is also possible to move slowly, and make a better progress with less dying, but it is less fun this way too.
If you don't like that type of games where you have to learn by dying, this is prolly not your cup of tea. But if you can enjoy such (slightly unfair) gameplay, give this a try.
My rating is somewhere around "3.6", so i rounded it to 4.
