Reviews for Arkanoid - Revenge of Doh (#258)

Although this is still a very good Breakout clone and a neat arcade conversation, I personally find that this lacked the charm from the original. Maybe it was the transparent background that made the enemies and power ups a bit hard to see. Still it's a great game but I just find myself enjoyable Arkanoid more.

Good but a bit pointless after such great games as Arkanoid and Batty. I must say I dislike the background graphic technique , it gets a bit confusing and eye wearing. Nice 128k sounds.

The best bat 'n' ball game for the Spectrum bar none, and an excellent conversion from the Taito coin-op as well. 'Nuff said.

Arkanoid was a mainstay when I was a young un so purchasing the sequel was a no brainer. And it was.....ok. The problem is it tries to do too much, graphics wise, and it all falls a bit flat. Better than Batty, not a patch on the original. D'oh!

Good , but not incredibly good .

3 / 5 .

Arkanoid was a pretty poor Breakout clone. What it really needed was horrendous backdrops that hurt your eyes. And as luck would have it, the sequel does exactly that. It does control better than Arkanoid even if it will make you blind.

I always thought of Arkanoid - Revenge of Doh as a weak sequel to Arkanoid.

What made Arkanoid stand out for me was its colourful graphics and its smooth gameplay, both of which was missing in Revenge of Doh. Instead the graphics are too eye-catchy, especially with its backgrounds which makes things too complicated to control your bat and anticipate your shots. Also, the gameplay doesn't seem as smooth as the original, playing with almost like a floaty effect which I dislike, although it is a little bit easier to control than in the original because it is slower to begin with, although the complex texture in the backgrounds still makes this game quite tricky.

After the fun of the original, its sequel feels very flat. There was, and still is, a trend where sequels end up being less than what was anticipated and expected, Revenge of Doh is one such example.

Not another crap sequel! What the hell happened? Arkanoid was so smooth and pretty and played like a gem. This however has ugly backgrounds that take up much of the screen and spoil the graphics, a glowing bat effect that is very off putting and it nowhere near has the same thrilling gameplay the original had. I said in my review for Arkanoid that surely they couldn't mess it up, while Arkanoid delivered the goods, here however, they can and they did.

Very inferior to the sublime original. Looks and gameplay both falling short of what was expected. Beyond disappointed.

Brick games are a safe bet
And that's why I bring these, that were among the most popular.
The second part of
Arkanoid, which I already scored (maximum) back in the day, is interesting but perhaps inferior ..
It's hard to explain, better to try and see, but somehow it lost some charm.

Nonetheless, good enough and, importantly it brings fun

Very good stuff too; although not so much, but a more than worthy successor to a classic of great significance

Yes very muchgood.
popularized among teenagers back in its day.
First and second, this case, were among the most popular choices, thanks to arcade machines among other things.
