Reviews for Sir Lancelot (#4520)

A brilliant platform game ! Apparently the last 16k game created as well !

Back in the day me and my best mate (Mark) used to play this a ton. We became very good at it, reaching the end level a few times.

Sir Lancelot is very playable, you cant die falling from any height, the gameplay is superb and the levels well designed.

An excellent game, yeah its got basic graphics and sound (and it frustratingly takes a while to 'die' if you are at the bottom of the screen) but its a true playable classic.

Although not quite the last 16K game to be commercially released (Bazam and Don't Panic both came later for a couple of examples) this was very much the high watermark of gaming on the unexpanded machine.

Although not a terribly original idea, and suffering from an overlong sequence whenever you lose a life, it's very playable platform action; there's the run and jump feel of Manic Miner, but it plays at Chuckie Egg speed, and the level designs are pitched about right with a good number shoehorned into the limited memory available.

Although few people still had 16K machines that hadn't been upgraded at the time it was released, that wasn't a problem as this was giving away little to the 48K platformers of the day.

Ok, what could be said against Sir Lancelot? It's a minor Spectrum classic, but still a classic - and not because of flashy graphics and presentation, it owes it all to the sheer addictiveness of the simple, fast and fun gameplay: it's a frantic version of Manic Miner, in which you don't have to worry about falling from whatever height: falling it's part of the game, and you need it to solve each screen - in which, of course, you have to collect all the flickering objects before being able to go to the exit, which in this case appears only after you've completed the collecting. The graphics are simple but nice. The beeper is merrily beeping. No less than 4/5.

Fun, addictive and brilliantly designed. One of the best 16K games ever made. Absolutely marvelous.

One of the best platformers out there and , probably , the only one really able to hold a candle to Manic Miner ...

Pretty impressive for a 16k game but there's a lot better platformers out there.

Not the prettiest platform game around, but one of the most addictive, that's for sure.
I wonder what it would have looked like if this was written for the 48K.

This is a game for the 16K, probably the one "pure" platforms game that made me and my sister enjoy.

I would recommend as one of the best speccys ever, but not in the 20 best.
