Re: Idea: Game construction set
The key feature of a game editor is its stop-change-continue ability. The language I proposed supports this. However, I still haven't decided some points, such as resource handlers, changing gfx engines etc.

Re: Idea: Game construction set
I'd like to create a sequel to AGD (also native), with maximum flexibility (any game loop, loading, saving etc). I suppose that the language should look like this: Main: mode=GO, t0=_time, dtime=1, MainLoop MainLoop: MainBody, MainLoop MainBody: @Mode[mode], WaitDTime WaitDTime: DTime, dtime==0? Wai...
Re: HTTPS
I think, Spectrum community is big enough to lobby the keeping of HTTP at least in one mainstream web browser. Keeping HTTP alive is vital for us, because Spectrum can't handle HTTPS.

How the Spanish scene revival started? I suppose, this happened in 2003?
How the people gathered? Or did they already have contact through all the 90's?

It will be interesting to see datings for different versions of the same game (starting from demos and so on, until the recent patches).

Vortex Tracker player (a.k.a. Pro Tracker 3 player) plays *.pt3 files, not *.ay files.

One more machine: Арго ФВ-6511 (made in Ukraine, 1991) was both ZX Spectrum compatible and Radio-86RK compatible.

AY music with one sampled channel came from demos like Condommed.
What is shown is a private version of Vortex Tracker. You can use Pro Tracker 3 with General Sound instead.
Anyway, for use in demos, you must write a player by yourself.

Why there were virtually no people in England who remained on Spectrum through all the 90's and 2000's? In Russia, there are thousands.5MinuteRetro wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 10:47 pm Okay, 'last' in this context means the last Spectrum game you remember playing back then, before moving on to whatever 16-bit wonder grabbed you.

Although on the C64 and Spectrum, Ghostbusters was the biggest seller (I think everyone had a copy of the Ricochet re-release?!!) I think Exolon beats it, as it was bundled with Дельта-С and Синтез (at least 200 000 units taken together), maybe with something else. Every Russian ZX Spectrum user kn...

Re: Cyrillic version of the Spectrum ROM
96 chars were used in old releases, but modern programs use 256 chars with "CP-866" encoding. Usually such font (2048 bytes) is encoded in screen format (inc h).
Cyrillic ROMs were very rare (I never touched a computer with that).

Re: So what actually IS the story with the Pentagon and Scorpion?
Russian machines (not only Pentagon and Scorpion, but all disk models) use Beta 128 disk interface. All of them have different timings, incompatible with any of original timings. Scorpion has at least 4 different timings (all supported in 8 color editor). Pentagon has 4 others (used in PSG Wins part...

The Speccy's limitations ensure all its games have a particular graphical style and audio quality, which happens to be very beautiful. Removing these restrictions allows that style to become eroded. If you can "improve" the graphics and sound - where do you stop? Where PC stopped? The rea...

Re: Any games utilising fast emulation?
Seems, the community hates this approach. "But it's not a real Spectrum!", they say - well, an emulated Spectrum on a PC running at 800% speed isn't that real either, is it? That's not the case. Turbo mode is real and used in many clones since PLM/Avtomatika (1987) and Tim-S (1988). Profi...

Re: Did you get your Spectrum at the right time?
I got mine in 1991, that would be right time for Russia, but I was only 9 then, so I could only write in Basic, and I couldn't make fruitful connections until 1994. We plan to make a game about a typical Russian Spectrum user, spanning 1990 to 2000. However, some points of the gameplay have not been...

Do you have any specific title in mind that's updated frequently? I would like to take a look. Most NedoOS releases have many versions. I also update some of releases at my own website, without changing the URL. In NedoOS, the simplest case are one-file releases such as Super Mario: http://nedoos.r...
